What is Expressive Art?
Expressive art is a way of working that explores the use of art materials in various ways. The work is best suited to journals and smaller-scale work (max A3). These sessions are not fine art taught lessons but will be explorations of the art materials. You will be given a lot of examples and ideas for you to work with. However, it is crucial that you develop your own skills and learn to work independently.
Typical materials and equipment that are used:
- Acrylic or water-soluble paint and inks
- Wax crayons, oil pastels or gelatos
- Collage using – magazines, newspapers, commercially produced papers, handmade, or second-hand books
- Stencils
- Stamps – commercial or hand-carved rubber stamps.
What are the benefits of expressive art?
- Self-Awareness • Relaxation • Self-Esteem • Mindfulness • Presence • Connection • Balance • Personal Growth • Joy • Authenticity • Healing
